This post is long overdue! As most of you probably know I started my own merch in May. I called it Shop Offline, and you guys loved it! As did I, of course. The t-shirts were sold out in no time (three times, thank you!!), and we began to form a super cool community on Instagram. So much positivity and good vibes, I can’t thank you enough! But in August and September there was so much change in my life, and I realized I wanted my merch to become something more, too.
I wanted it to become a brand. In October I opened my own business, so the name had to change (Offline is my husband’s), and that was the turning point.
In Japanese that means ‘moon’, and that is, for me, a very strong, meaningful name. You know the saying; ‘nomen est omen’. I believe in mother nature, and in all it’s power. And the Moon is a big part of that. I feel strongly connected to her, she is my goddess. She moves mountains, and tames seas. She sets our mood, and shines down on us when there’s no other light to guide us. And so Tsuki was born.
The brand represents my fundamental values. The t-shirts are made of certified organic cotton and hand printed in Ljublana, Slovenia. They are also part of the Geneva Convention banning child labour, the drawing up and controlled implementation of an exemplary code of conduct on working conditions and social laws, the use of non-toxic dyes,.. The pouches and totes are also made of certified fair trade organic cotton and hand printed in Ljublana, Slovenia. The beanies are made of 100% acryl, and are hand embroided here, in Slovenia, and the notebooks are also printed in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
With Tsuki my goal is to offer an alternative, more friendly and less aggressive way of shopping. I encourage mindfulness as a way of life, and try my best to apply it to fashion, and also to other aspects of my daily life, such as food, transport, relationships,.. Because being nice is always the best choice. Not necessarily the easiest one, but for sure it is the one everyone benefits the most from.
So I am inviting you along on my journey towards learning and growing our manners – regarding our attitude in general, and our relationships with people / animals, how and why we take care of the environment, our relationship with food, etc. Let’s be friendly to one another, to all life on Earth, and to the planet itself. It’s not like we can just move to another planet once we destroy this one. Our bodies, and this Earth, these are the only two places we have to live. Let’s take care of both.
Making this invitation I have to remind you of one more thing. You don’t have to change it all, or all at once. Take small steps, because no matter how small the steps, you’re still moving forward as long as you’re making them.
Here are some examples on where and how to start:
-Stop buying / taking plastic bags at grocery stores, and always bring your own (I use my organic cotton totes ALL THE TIME).
-Switch to locally grown food. everything that’s not from your country (or the country next to yours) is just polluting the planet way to much. If bananas don’t grow in Slovenia, you don’t need to eat them. We have plenty of apples here, for instance. And they don’t travel half the world and pollute the seas, air, and so much more. I do almost all my grocery shopping at the farmer’s market. And again, you don’t need to change everything at once. Start with veggies / meat / dairy,.. just pick one and get it eco from now on.
-Instant fashion, such as H&M, ZARA, and other huge corporations are a really big polluter. Try to buy less, with more meaning. Buy three (five, seven,..) items per year, instead of going nuts on sales at the mall. Just think of how much the person making the clothes made, if anything. And how the items got to the store. And what materials were used. And if the dyes are tested on animals, and so on. Think before you buy.
One person can’t change the world. But if we all start making really small changes in our daily lives, we just might end up making a huge change all together.
That is the philosophy behind Tsuki, and I hope you join me on my journey towards a more mindful life.
