In Friday's post I said I'd show you my birthday cake yesterday, but I haven't had the time to edit the photos yet because I was on a pilates seminar. So here it is today (better late than never, right?). The cake was created by Petra from www.petrascakes.com, and I AM IN LOVE! Her creations are amazing, and the best thing is the cake also tasted amazing, I mean can you believe that?! The flavor I chose was raspberry-chocolate, and the texture was super moist and creamy, not too sweet, plus the icing was yummy. It was without doubt the most beautiful cake I've ever had, thank you Petra!
I celebrated at a small family gathering at my mom's place, and I think it's safe to say it was one of the best birthdays I've ever had. There was so much laughter and positivity, I could feel myself filling up with good vibes and love. Family always reminds me of who I am and in some way grounds me *Earth to Nina*, and I'm so thankful to be surrounded by such amazing people. I really feel lucky and privileged to be able to spend time with them, when those are the days that remind me not everyone has this kind of luck and happiness. Those are the days I remind myself, even deeper than any other day, how important it is to treat people well, be kind to them and to yourself, and accept everything and everyone as it (we) come. Life is beautiful, and there really is magic, if you're looking in the right places.

So yesterday I posted a poll on my Instagram story, and it turnes out a lot of you want to upgrade your sushi game. For me there is only one place in Ljubljana I get sushi, Sushimama. The quality is unquestionable, and the taste is just perfect. Whatever you decide to get there - you won't be disappointed. From chirashi, all kinds of sushi (rolls), to steak, tempura,.. it's all there & it's all so yummy!
And I know a lot of people are 'scared' to try sushi for the first time. But here's why everyone should at least consider trying it: the fish are 100% natural, as fresh as they get. No additives, no 'poison' for our bodies (like when you go to an asian restaurant & die from food poisoning :D). Sushi is one of the most pure, most natural dishes we can eat. Also, it's very nutritious: high in protein, naturally low in fat, just the right amount of carbs (the rice), and a ton of minerals and vitamins that are essential for our wellbeing. Not to mention the fibre and good fats - a lot of sushi is prepared with vegetables, tropical fruit and avocado, so there's that!
Anyway, don't be afraid to try something new. But when you do decide to get sushi you must run a detailed background check on the place. The fish are raw, which means they can be a home for parasites, so you really need to pick a place that's double (triple!!) checked. Sushimama is a restaurant I trust completely, and I've been going there for years now. So if you're from Ljubljana (or someplace close), or if you're just passing through, I highly recommend it.

It's such a moody Tuesday morning, and I made the perfect recipe to share with you. As you guys know I am a total porridge addict. I eat it almost every morning, but prepared in different ways. Today I made the ultimate vanilla protein porridge bowl with the most yummy toppings ever!
Now, as a porridge master (more apprentice, really - I'm always learning), here's my favorite way to cook oats: I pour them into a pan and level them. Then I pour water into the pan with the oats until they are completely soaked and under water. Then I add whatever I'm craving at the moment (vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, chia seeds, etc.), and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. You'll know when the porridge is done when the mixture gets a creamy texture, and there is almost no water left (the oats are soaked). And then I just get creative with the toppings!
It takes about 5-7 minutes to make, and it really is the perfect breakfast! Packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals, tons of fiber, and amazing taste. Send me some photos if you decide to try it out! ♡
