It emphasizes the aspects which help us grow and makes us conscious of those which smother our progress and deflect our energy. Our direct surroundings reflect who we are and who we are is a reflection of all that surrounds us. Being and staying mindful is what helps us move along with ease.
V rubriki 'Okolje in Čuječnost' domujejo članki o tem, kako ustvariti prijeten bivalni prostor in okolje na sploh. Kaj so tiste stvari, ki nas dvigujejo in kaj tiste, ki nas dušijo. Vse, kar nas obdaja je odraz naše notranjosti, in naša notranjost je odraz vsega, kar nas obdaja. Čuječnost nam pomaga ohranjati lahkotnost življenja.
It's so good to be back! The past couple of months have been all about renovating. But not only our home, I also refreshed the look of my blog a little bit! Honestly I missed writing blog posts, but I just hadn't had the time to prioritize that. I really wanted to grow my YouTube channel, so I put my blog on hold for a while. BUT. Now my YT channel is up and running, and I have a routine of creating videos, so I can slowly start writing more blog posts again! You can expect new posts once a week, on Thursdays at 20:00.
Today is special to me - this is the first blog post about our renovation, and I'm finally sharing some BEFORE / AFTER pictures!! I was dying to post them, because I just feel we did a really good job renovating and designing our new home (if you want to see more detailed updates you can find them on YouTube at the RENOVATION playlist). We did some of the renovation work ourselves, as much as was possible, but now that we've been assembling the kitchen and other furniture we mostly did it ourselves (HUGE THANKS to our friends for helping out).
We got the kitchen at Ikea, but what I really want to talk about today are the Hay AAS 38 stools we got at Kubus, and also show you some other kitchen items we found there.
The AAS 38 is a real gem. We were looking for the perfect stool for our kitchen island for ages, and finally we found it at Kubus, where we sat down with an architect and talked things through. We are super impressed by the service and level of expertise Kubus offers, and adding the finishing touches to our kitchen was so much easier with their help!
As you may have noticed, in some of the photos you can see our dining table and chairs. We got the table custom made, but the chairs are our 'old' chairs we got for our previous apartment, and are also from Kubus. The Vitra Eames Fiberglass Side chairs are super playful, and the fact that we have 5 different color ways just makes the whole kitchen / dining area a little less 'clean' and dull.
Talking about the KITCHEN / DINING AREA - as you can tell from the before / after photos, we've torn down the wall separating the kitchen from the living room, and now we have one big space (39m2), and that was probably one of, if not THE best call we made throught the renovation. Opening up the living and cooking area brought so much light and warmth to our home, now all we have to do is figure out where to put the Christmas tree!
But let's get back to the kitchen. The kitchen is 460cm long, and the island is 240cmx90cm, and we're already starting to realize that's where the main mess will be going down. The vibe in the kitchen just makes you not want to leave! Especially now that we have these super cool (and comfy AF) stools, and all the super nice 'accessories' we got at Kubus. The bread basket, tray, salt & pepper shakers, and the pitcher are from Stelton, and the Eames bird that has been on our whish list for ages (that was our 'moving in' present to ourselves).
So to sum things up: even an Ikea kitchen can look like a million dollars if you know how to magic it up with some final touches, so you don't have to spend a fortune to have a really good looking kitchen! There are some things worth investing in, and one of these things are definitely CHAIRS. You need to take care of your body, so how and where you sit is super important! And cheap, badly designed chairs can seriously harm your spine, and consequentially your hips, shoulders, and neck. So people. If you're sitting down a lot (which you probably are, lol this lifestyle is killing us), do yourself a favour and sit on a quality chair. At Kubus you can find all kinds of chairs (office, lounge, dining, stools,..) so make sure to pay them a visit at Rimska cesta 23 in Ljubljana, and talk things through.
AND if you're looking for new stools I need to let you know that the ASS 38 is CURRENTLY ON SALE at Kubus, as it is the product of the month! You can get the 20% off so it's a pretty darn good deal!
Anyway guys. Creating this blog post felt so good, and I'm looking forward to next Thursday already! If you have any questions about our kitchen or Kubus just leave them in the comments or drop me a DM on Instagram.
I’m so excited to finally write this post! It’s been way too long, but the wedding preparations are just so insane right now. Absolutely nothing goes according to plan, but I trust the universe will make it perfect. In the mean time, I’m simply grateful for the people I have in my life, trying to be mindful in my relationships with them, and taking good care of myself and everyone around me.
Last week, Tin and Iza invited us over for brunch. We’ve been trying to meet again for ages, and finally we made it! I think it’s super sad that we don’t see our friends for so long. We (and by ‘we’ I mean all of us, even you) tend to confuse our priorities by putting our etc. job first, but not our social bonds. We cannot do our job properly if we’re in a black mood, and to not feel that way we really need to put our relationships first, everything else comes second. And note that we don’t only establish and nourish relationships with other people, in the first place we need to bond with ourselves. Make sure we enjoy inner harmony as well as a balanced ‘outside’ or social life.
Bottom line, you come first. Everything else can wait.
To establish meaningful relationships (and nourish, maintain and care for them) we need two skills; to give consistently, and receive occasionally. We also need to acknowledge that listening is so much more important than talking. Anyone can say the ‘right words’, or have their own opinion, but not anyone can listen, and that is what we all really need – someone who listens to us, and someone we listen to. We don’t always need to say something, or anything, in fact. We just need to show empathy and kindness, and when that is felt words may find their place, and help heal or grow.
Even though we don’t know Tin and Iza very well (yet) I care for them very much. They are beautiful, creative souls with such an inspiring positive view on life. We met through a friend of mine, Taja - Tin is her brother, while Iza is Tin’s girlfriend. Their family shows what family really means, meaning not only the ‘blood bond’, but also the feeling of belonging, acceptance, and harmony.
So guys let’s get our priorities straight. Let’s figure out what we really want, who we really want to be(come). Make meaningful and mindful choices in life, regarding the outside world as well as what’s going on within us.
Tin is also an excellent chef! When we came over the perfect brunch was served. Poached eggs, salmon, avocado – everything I enjoy so much! Not to mention their home. Once you’re in harmony with yourself everything else around you falls into place. I mean just look at their home!
Dragi moji vsi ♡
What are you up to this week? Whatever it is, I hope you have a good time. I sure will! I have so many cool things to do this week - some events, photo sessions, workouts, Žiga and I are celebrating our fifth anniversary, we're hosting a housewarming party,.. to conclude: there's an awesome week ahead of me.
But I also had a blast last week! Among other things, I had a photo session with my dear friend, and a great photographer, Taja Košir Popovič, and the pics are amazing! We were shooting in my home, and at one point Taja said how scandinavian the whole design is, which was a great compliment for me. I cannot say I don't agree, after all my taste for interiors really does lean strongly towards the scandinavian minimalism.
The reason for that lies within my interest in the japanese culture, and the 'less is more' rule, the 'keeping it pure' philosophy. I like to reflect my inner self in the space I spend my time in. For me to feel comfortable in a room it needs to fall into place with the shape of my thoughts and feelings. It is very important to me I feel the calm of the room. My head is a very loud place, and a clean, uncomplicated space helps my thoughts get back into place. Another thing that is better than any therapy are my cats. Kenzo and Rina are guardians of my soul, they make sure all the pieces stay intact. They fill the emptiest room with pure love and positive energy. They make our home a home♡
Stay tuned tomorrow for a post about an amazing project I have had the pprivilige to be a part of!
Talk soon, x
Yesterday my boyfriend took me on a date to a somewhat new place in Kranj, Slovenia, called Panorama Stara Pošta. I AM IN LOVE. Yes, of course with Žiga, but with that place also!! You all know my passion for interior design, and I have to say - this place is the dream. The jungle vibes mixed with scandinavian design, gorgeous!
Anyway, we had tapas and toast, mint lemonade, and THE best dessert ever. The panna cotta I can't even describe, and the cupcake was a chocolate lover's dream (yes, I almost injected myself with it). So bottom line the food is amazing, the vibe is perfect, and the staff is professional. I got the feeling I was somewhere aborad - you don't get many places like this in Slovenia. Definitely worth checking out!
